Day 01: Kochi
Designed for butterfly enthusiasts such as you, the Butterfly
Week Tour promises to leave you asking for more. After a warm
welcome at the Kochi Airport by an India Tour Guides representative
who will escort you to the hotel and get you checked in, there
will be a meeting with ornithologist / lepidopterist who will
give you an overview of your upcoming butterfly spotting trip.
Spend the rest of the day at your own leisure and come back
to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 02: Kochi - Thattekkad
Knowing you will be eager to start on with your butterfly
spotting, there will be an early breakfast after which you
will set out for Thattekkad that is pure butterfly country.
Once there you will very easily spot the the Malabar Rose,
Paris Peacock, Gladeye Bushbrown, Tamil Catseye, Whitebar
Bushbrown, Blue Mormon, Malabar Raven, Red Pierrot and other
species of butterflies. In the evening, go out to see the
local tourist attractions. Overnight stay can either be at
the hotel or camping at the Estate Bungalow.
Day 03: Thattekkad - Munnar
The third day will comprise a tour to Munnar from Thattekkad.
Enroute you can visit the Rajamalai wildlife sanctuary, home
to the Nilgiri Tahr and other butterfly species such as Bluebottle,
Indian Cabbage White, Common Jezebel, Red Helen, Palni Four
Ring, Red Disk Bushbrown, Tailed Jay, Nilgiri Tiger and Giant
Orange Tip. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the resort
in Munnar.
Day 04: Munnar - Chinnar
After a early morning breakfast, head out to the Chinnar Wildlife
Sanctuary and enjoy some happy hours spotting butterfly species
like the Yellow Pansy, Great Eggfly, Blue Pansy, Travencore
Evening Brown, Tamil Lacewing, Malabar Banded Swallowtail,
Fivebar Swordtail, Cruise and Southern Duffer among others.
Drive back to the Munnar hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 05: Chinnar - Periyar
After a relaxing morning, set out for the beautiful town of
Periyar. At the Periyar, you will put up at the forest lodge,
so that butterflies will never be too far away from you. Periyar
has a very rich butterfly population and you are likely to
spot different butterfly species such as the Malabar Rose,
Paris Peacock, Blue Mormon, Gladeye Bushbrown, Whitebar Bushbrown,
Red Pierrot, Malabar Raven, Clipper, Tamil Catseye et al.
Stay overnight at the forest lodge in Periyar.
Day 06: Periyar
As your Butterfly Week Tour draws to an end, we will take
you along the lakes and streams in Periyar in Kerala where
there will be a rich abundance of butterflies. Also there
will be arrangements for Short treks within the Periyar Forest.
Return to forest lodge in Periyar for overnight stay.
Day 07: Periyar - Kochi
Bid adieu to the lovely butterflies of Kerala in South India
as you are driven back to the Kochi airport so that you can
board the flight for your onward destination or back home.
